Organized in 1941, Brazos Electric was the first cooperative formed in Texas for the purpose of
generating and supplying electrical power. Today, it is the largest generation and transmission cooperative in Texas. Position Summary:
Properly prepares, records, maintains, and reports the financial transactions of the cooperative.
Maintains supporting subsidiary records involved in the accounting function except those involving property accounting. Follows RUS standards of accounting and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles in preparation and presentation of financial information.
Key Responsibilities & Functions:
Prepares supporting schedules and journal entries to properly record financial transactions. Maintains subsidiary records within the General Accounting & Financial Reporting system. Assists in
preparation of financial statements, financial reports, forecasts and budgets. Assists in the development of procedures for general accounting activities. Prepares invoices for billable work orders; prepares journal entries for related receivables. Process receivable and payable invoices related to transmission cost of service; track rate changes and compute amounts due/receivable. Review AR aging and prepare past due notices. Maintains GL records for interest rate swaps. Prepare year end IRS 1099 forms. Assist in preparation of transmission cost of service schedules for distribution rate updates and TCOS filings. Studies RUS Bulletins, uniform system of accounts, taxation, insurance, financing and forecasting. Participates in special accounting assignments, studies and audits as required. Performs
other duties as required. Prepares monthly Excel files for power bills. Accumulates, assembles, and computes power bills to all cooperatives and cities.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting with one (1) year related experience. Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
Physical and Environmental Requirements:
Requires working inside in a controlled environment and occasionally outside in varying weather conditions. Requires sitting for extended periods of time. Requires working overtime and traveling at times with short notice. Requires hearing within normal range, hearing aids are permitted.
Requires vision within normal range, corrective lens are permitted.
