Health and Safety Consultant

Location - Wyoming and Colorado

Job Status: Full Time

FLSA Status: Exempt (Salaried)

Amount of travel required: up to 50%

POSITION SUMMARY

Provide consultation for health and safety for construction and mining operations in Colorado and Wyoming. A qualified candidate will have a minimum of four (4) years of health and safety experience, preferably in a mine and/or construction setting. Will be involved with MSHA regulations and have material exposure to OSHA regulations. This role will be responsible for maintaining a culture of safety across the organization and provide consultation on best practices to ensure all employees continue to prioritize safety.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Maintain and continually examine operational practices to ensure compliance with MSHA and OSHA regulations and expectations, including ownership of all Health, Safety and Environmental programs.

  • Aids on-site MSHA and OSHA inspections and investigates and manages responses to alleged violations.

  • Consults with leaders and employees in equipment usage and provide education necessary to work safely.

  • Ensure appropriate PPE usage, trains employees on appropriate use, care, and storage.

  • Carry out safety-assessments and safety audits, incident/near miss investigations, and root case analysis for incident management.

  • Provide technical safety and environmental expertise for all business groups.

  • Participate in developing and conducting field safety orientation training.

  • Review all critical work plans and be present on site for safety critical operations.

  • Conducts appropriate field environmental testing.

  • Ensures proper reporting completed and maintained to standards.

  • Other responsibilities as assigned will be expected to support operations at the plant.

  • Knowledgeable in current and prospective regulatory requirements.

  • Ensure safety compliance with all operational and mining permits.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION, SKILLS, ABILITIES

  • Related degree in Occupational Health and Safety or a related technical field.

  • Minimum of 4 years of related experience, specific mining experience helpful.

  • Minimum of 1 year of previous experience as an on-site safety person.

  • Experience working with rail safety a plus.

  • Proven results in inspections/ site standards.

  • Demonstrable experience in action planning and delivering changes to impact results.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Lifting, carrying, reaching, pushing, and/or pulling; climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant finger dexterity necessary 75 pounds.

  • This position is exposed to work near moving mechanical parts, and moderate noise levels.

  • Frequently climbs ladders and stairs.

  • Work Environment - Work performed in an office, construction site and mining/process plant environment. Exposure to inclement weather.

  • Appropriate PPE for conditions must be worn.
