We are seeking a hands-on Human Resources Manager to provide both strategic and tactical HR leadership within our recently acquired flooring tile manufacturing facility located in Kankakee, Illinois which is conveniently located just off I–57 approximately 50 miles south of Chicago. This opportunity serves as a key leader for a 300-person plant with responsibility for staffing, development, employee relations by proactively identifying and implementing practices that continue to drive employee engagement and improved plant performance. The HR Manager will partner closely with plant leaders and the business unit’s HR team; ensure the Human Resources strategies and initiatives are tightly linked to the objectives and key challenges of the facility and the business, building employee engagement by driving the development and attainment of business strategies and plans through strategic HR planning, change management, organizational design and talent management. This position reports directly to the VP, HR with a strong dotted line to the Plant Manager.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Qualified individuals must have the ability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to perform the following duties:

  • Leads and directs plant HR activities to support the achievement of all plant performance metrics in the areas of Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, Productivity and People.
  • Partners closely with business leaders to provide strategic HR thought/organizational leadership; provides recommendations for the development of HR strategies in support of the business strategy.
  • Has a full understanding of key initiatives and priorities in the assigned manufacturing location, quickly elevates issues when required or notifies appropriate parties for involvement to proactively facilitate a decision.
  • Provides coaching to leaders, managers, and employees to promote teamwork and positive employee relations.
  • Possesses a keen understanding of the business, mission, challenges, and business initiatives. Consults with leaders to influence and facilitate the development of their organizational priorities and related change initiatives.
  • Identifies trends and proactively recommends creative solutions to improve performance, retention and employee engagement
  • Ensures plant-level recruiting processes are effective and efficient and compliant with labor laws and policies.
  • Drives key HR processes with business partners, including cyclical HR programs/projects.
  • Provides counsel and coaching on a wide range of personnel matters.
  • Ensures the execution of key plant HR initiatives and processes to drive continuous improvement in the areas of organization effectiveness, staffing, labor and employee relations, performance management, training and development, benefits, employment practices and compliance.
  • Mentors and develops plant HR resource(s) ensuring their ongoing learning and functional excellence.
  • Identifies and drives process improvement within the HR function.
  • Participates in the design and implementation of handbooks and policies for consistent practices across the manufacturing organization.
  • Ensures existing programs are in compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Leads and supports the execution of annual HR processes including: talent review, performance planning, annual performance reviews, and compensation review.
  • Enhances field leadership effectiveness and capabilities by assessing individual development needs and partnering effectively to build development plans.
  • Analyzes, benchmarks and reacts, where applicable, to financial, operational and HR metrics to drive results.
  • Supports and leads, where appropriate, the investigation process of medium and high-risk concerns, analyzing organizational ethics and safety/health issues, consulting on solutions/follow up.
  • Guides effective succession and retention/stability efforts.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, HR Degree preferred.
  • 5+ years of HR leadership experience in a manufacturing organization.
  • Expertise in all core HR functions, employment law and HR policies/practices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and influence at all levels of the organization
  • Experience leading cross-functional projects to completion including organizing, prioritizing, planning, scheduling, and following up on all project related items.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to be flexible and change directions when needed
  • Strong collaboration and team-work skills that incorporate a broad view to achieve objectives both independently and as part of a business and HR team.
  • Ability to relate to, influence and coach employees at all levels in the organization.
  • Working knowledge of relevant State and Federal laws related to HR policies and practices.
  • Strong organizational skills to handle high volumes of work in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment while maintaining excellent delivery and quality performance.
  • Proven success working across organizational lines and at multiple levels and success achieving business objectives through personal initiative and energy.
  • Excellent analytical abilities with a strong attention to detail, combined with a strong customer service orientation and the ability to work effectively with all levels of the organization, individually and in teams.
  • Proven oral and written communications skills to convey information clearly and effectively. Solid listening skills to gather information for understanding.
  • Ability to synthesize information from multiple sources, determine issues and objectives, and develop strategies to address needs.
  • Strong integration skills. Able to drive all parts of the organization to consensus.
  • Ability to pivot focus effectively in response to business needs.
  • Experience managing complex employee/labor relations situations.
  • History of effectively coaching across levels and functions, including individuals in more senior roles than oneself.
  • Project management and business acumen skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office including Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with UltiPro system.
  • PHR/SPHR certification.
