This position is responsible for activities that support Optum Clinical Services with regulatory and delegation contractual requirements as outlined in the Clinical Services Delegation Oversight framework.

Location: Remote/Telecommute

Hours: Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm PST

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Conduct desktop, virtual and on-site surveys to validate adherence to safety standards at Optum’s potential acquisitions, newly acquired acquisitions and integrated care delivery organizations
  • Lead implementation efforts of safety standards through consultation, training, and education at newly acquired care delivery organizations and health service businesses
  • In collaboration with care businesses, develop and drive implementation of remediation and process improvement plans to resolve non-adherence and identified injury trends
  • Validate remediation is complete and sustained
  • Leverage critical thinking and industry expertise to troubleshoot and resolve escalated issues
  • Actively participate in National Standard updates and various Employee Health and Safety initiatives
  • Support program development through improving and creating program resources
  • Facilitate presentations and reporting to clinical leadership and national program leadership
  • Apply subject matter expertise in the area(s) of employee safety like environmental safety, occupational health, medical waste, chemical safety, communicable disease exposures and workforce safety goals
  • Develop relationships with local care delivery organizations
  • Conduct quality assurance reviews of completed surveys to improve interrater reliability efforts
  • Provide clinical expertise and support to clinical risk management team
  • Promote a culture of safety
  • Manage, support and report on quality improvement initiatives
  • Develop educational content as needed, including training modules, job aids, competency checklists, skills lab checklists, etc.
  • Provide guidance requested by businesses and team members, via subject matter expertise in area(s) of staff safety including exposures, chemical safety, emergency action planning, environmental safety, medical waste, laser safety and OSHA compliance
  • Conduct quality assurance reviews of assessments and findings to improve interrater reliability efforts
  • Support efforts to consolidate, catalogue, and standardize clinical policies, protocols, competency checklists, job aids, and others across the enterprise
  • Maintain shared resource libraries including Teams and/or SharePoint sites
  • Participate in national and business level meetings to report metrics and facilitate action planning
  • Develop presentations specific to area of responsibility to report on metrics and goals
  • Assist in monthly validation of program statistics for publication to national dashboards and leadership reports
  • Other duties and projects as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED (or higher)
  • 5+ years of healthcare safety experience
  • Advanced level of proficiency with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Safety Certification
  • Prior experience conducting assessments, surveys, or audits

Soft Skills:

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively

The salary range for this role is $ 89,800 to $176,700 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
